IF: cracked...

sgraffito on clay, don't apply too much pressure while scratching through the slip or your tile may become cracked... this one didn't ( a couple did).

Theme for Illustration Friday was/is "cracked".

with all the stress i've cracked...

Made it through the day and now into the night. Over 300 people attended the opening tonight. I guess that's not bad. According to the gallery that was above average. It rained throughout the evening, but there was a constant flow of people. I made a lot of contacts. One piece sold right away and another person said they were coming back tomorrow to buy a piece (I'll believe it when it happens). There were a few more that said they wanted to buy, and asked how long the show would be up. It is supposed to run through the end of month, but since the building is being remodeled, the show will come down on the 18th. Only two weeks... I had a lot of people hanging around my work and wanting to talk about it. Hopefully the interest sparks more sales... The night is over and I'm at home drinking wine, goodnight...

One more day till show time... Teach class tomorrow then run home shower and get to the gallery. I hope I don't make a total fool of myself.

Time to take a couple trips downtown to unload a bunch of pieces to the gallery. It will probably take three trips in the Scion... I'll have to borrow a truck to take the 7' 4" pillar there.

The opening is on Friday. My family is in Seattle so they won't be there. I hope a few folks I know make it... blah, blah, blah.

Another wasted weekend. I did take a couple long hikes through the woods that were rather refreshing. Finished two more pieces for next months show (less than 4 weeks till set-up). Hope it goes well. The wife is at another friend's house partying (again). I should make some food for me and the boy... Later

The weekend is almost here. I think I'll dust off the bike and go for a ride. Tomorrow I'll stumble around from gallery to gallery, maybe drink a couple beers, and visit with friends... Tonight, I draw.

Her family is still here... I think I'm going insane. I made a few more frames and drew some this weekend. Tomorrow back to work and deal with earning a pay check.

Starting to wonder why I do the things I do (again). I have so much work to do but lack the motivation, desire, or energy to do it. After this show, I'm going to try and shake things up, go for a little trip somewhere and re-evaluate where I'm at. Now that the weather is warm and the snow is melting I should take a walk in the woods and see what was being covered by the deep snow...

The weekend is nearing and so is my wife's sister and her new husband. While they're here I'll have to lock myself away and finish more tiles for the show in April. I need to get cracking and start on a new idea/theme for another show (if I can land one). Blah blah blah.

more tiles...

More tile pieces for a show in April. I have to finish 12 more of the drawing tiles and another of the 3 head tiles, also a 15 bomb tile, and two 12 head tile pieces.

The drawn tile pieces "float 3/4" above the board on the back of the frame.

Tomorrow I meet with the gallery to find out how much wall space I will have at the group show. I know I have enough wall pices to fill a larger gallery by myself. I guess I'll be weeding through my work to show the strongest pieces...

surrender

Went to the opening last night. Sold one piece out of 12. Then hung out for an hour or two. I wanted to leave and just give up, there were a lot of openings and I didn't get to many. Very few people I knew showed up to my deal...thanks for the support for those that did. The head tiles and a few sculptures sparked some interest...we'll see if there was enough to bring folks back to buy. I went to one of the big venues and bought three pieces. My wife will kill me, but what the hell ya only live once. I'm thinking about stopping by the joint I'm in later to see if anyone actually goes there...

Nice SUV

Been working on sculptures lately. Made a few for this show I'm in next month. Been keeping them tame, then it hit me, why am I making stuff for this gallery when I should be making it from me. So far I've had success at selling my images and not what I think the gallery will like or along their style of shit they sell. I'm thinking of making political or social comment pieces that deal with the problems we currently face. So fuck the cute shit and back to work on my agenda.

Bad day

Not really a bad day, just a long one. I've made four new sculptures in the past few days and another series of nine head tiles. I was notified on Saturday that I will be the featured artist at a gallery in October. That is why I've been motivated to make new stuff. I will have plenty of new pieces by the time of the show. I never did get hold of the other gallery owner...oh well. In the next few days I'm going to talk to a coffee shop about displaying the tiles. It would be cool to get them up during the same time as the other show. Back to work .

Long day of work followed up by, well nothing so far. I tried to get hold of that gallery owner...no luck. I'll try again later. I've been in a bit of a rut lately. Haven't been able to get my ass in gear to make anything of substance or feeling. I stumble through the woods thinking about many ideas and themes but accomplish...nothing. I need a new muse an inspiration or even something to bring a smile to my face...blah, blah, blah...Time to quit whining and start working...later

Went to a street party today. Talked with some interesting people and saw some odd ones as well. I'm sure some folks thought the same of me. Did some wood work for wall hanging pieces today. All I need to do now is paint the box/frames and epoxy in the tiles. Blah blah blah...

This is how I felt at work today. After a night of no sleep and pain radiating from my shoulders up the back of my neck into my head. I did manage to make a couple more wall hanging low relief sculptures. I also took a couple hour walk through the woods. The construction around here is trashing the forest and the trail. Normally I see deer and the occasional moose...not tonight. I only saw a few song birds and nothing else. Urban sprawl, is that what they call it?

drinking snake

The family is gone again, I sit alone in the house (after all the chores are done) too bored to draw or sculpt. Instead I painted pedestals for placing sculptures on out on the patio. I am supposed to meet with a friend on Friday to discuss illustrating a book for him. I need to get cracking on some examples or ideas to show him. Enough for now, tomorrow is an early wake-up and a long day of work...

Another long day at work then home to continue remodeling this place. I took a break for a little while to work in the back yard where my dog used to stay. He passed a way a little more than a week ago. I miss him, it's not the same around here without the big guy. I need to get busy again and finish what I've started...

Another quiet day. Painting a bathroom and installing a new toilet. Made me think of this drawing on a clay tile. Tonight I'll go down town to have a beer and sketch people in the park. Tomorrow will be dedicated to sculpting and drawing.
